DESCRIPTION:It is in the Drôme region, where they have both lived for man
y years, that ErikM and Julien Corda first met.\n\nFrom this encounter em
erged a project built around an unstable balance between two forms of ins
trument-making that respond to one another without resembling each other.
On the one hand, Julien Corda has, for several years, been developing el
ectroacoustic forms of instrument-making—modular and mechanical percussio
n—which he explores notably through the project Primitif. On the other, E
rikM, a musician working with digital concrete and a visual artist, creat
es his own electronic devices, combining the détourning of tools borrowed
from the entertainment industry or radio broadcasting with the creation
of digital instruments.\n\nThe duo emerges from this entanglement: on one
side, a practice of rhythm and phasing; on the other, a practice of spac
e and interference. In their respective ways, both artists explore an aes
thetic close to minimalist and iterative music, at times shamanic or conc
rete, in which acoustic space becomes an extremely malleable material. In
their presentation, the automata evoke the loudspeakers of the Ondes Mar
tenot; sound is absorbed and reprocessed like a jet in peril, through the
Idiosyncrasy, ErikM’s hybrid device, combining a digital Theremin, a tac
tile surface, live streaming and memory.\n\nDesigned to be performed both
in stereo and in quadraphonic sound, the project will be presented for t
he first time at MIAM in a three-dimensional AFC (Audio Field Control) en
 vironment.
